When working with hand tools, a sharp tool is a joy to use. Yet so many people seem intimidated by the process of sharpening.
The aim of this workshop is to totally demystify the process of sharpening. Based on a solid theoretical foundation, explained in very simple words, we’ll go through the aspects of how to make a blunt, tough to use tool, into a sharp, wonderful utensil. We’ll go through the theory of bevel types, abrasives, backings and take a magnified look at our edges to show what’s wrong with a knife.
After the theory, we’ll go through your existing sharpening gear, and you’ll be able to apply what was explained by sharpening your own tools. If you don’t have a sharpening kit, there will be kits available to use, so you can practice the theory and grow confidence in sharpening.
The aim of this 2-hour workshop is to take away some of the mystery of sharpening and get all those lovely woodworkers to have sharp tools again!
Things to bring if you have them:
- Your own sharpening kit (If you don’t have a sharpening kit, there will be kits available to use, so you can practice the theory and grow confidence in sharpening.)
- Tools (axe, straight knife, spoon knife, kitchen knife)
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Pieterjan - de@houtbewaarder.be.
No prior experience needed. This workshop will still be beneficial for those with some experience as well.
Minimum age: 16 years old
Pieterjan speaks Dutch & English.
If language is a barrier we are confident you will learn even if you speak or understand broken English. So much of the learning depends on seeing, feeling, and hearing the sounds as well.
IMPORTANT- Festival Tickets are booked separately and in addition to workshops. Please be sure you have booked your ticket before booking workshops!
