This is a tactile half-day course to learn how to carve a small miniature apple sculpture from the likeness of apples!
We will study, sketch and borrow from the organic appearance and unique shapes of a “peck” of apples at the beginning of the course, opening space for discussions on the 3D form and aesthetic before carving our findings into wood.
Beginning with foraged offcuts from the festival’s other courses, we will gradually refine and sculpt our pieces using an effective method to achieve resemblance of the apples ‘body’ before whittling a stem and assembling them.
“I particularly enjoy seeing how the forms of beautiful apple shapes bombine with the unique properties, colours and behaviors of wood. These apples become treasures and soon gain a lot of sentimental value, especially when they are gifted”
Together, we will all produce a tangible harvest of little apples that celebrate growth, season, time whilst learning to sculpt the three dimensional form in a way that can be applied to other projects.
Other fruits are welcome!
This course is aimed at those with some previous carving experience.
Tools: All tools will be provided for this course but participants may prefer to use their own carving knife.
Skill Level/Prerequisite’s: Prior carving experience suggested.
Minimum age: 16 years old
Afternoon workshops start after our lunch break around 2:00pm (14:00) and end around 5 or 6pm.
Samuel courses are in English.
If language is a barrier we are confident you will learn even if you speak or understand broken English. So much of the learning depends on seeing, feeling, and hearing the sounds as well.
IMPORTANT- Festival Tickets are booked separately and in addition to workshops. Please be sure you have booked your ticket before booking workshops!
