Thursday 6th - Goblet Turning with Pieterjan Heyse

€90.00
COMING SOON

As an ode to the potentially most elegant of end grain cups, the goblet, we present you this workshop. Pieterjan fell in love with them right in the beginning of his turning journey (ask him about that story later by the campfire) and they stuck. He loves to make them and they are very approachable as something to turn on the pole lathe when you want something else than a bowl.

We’ll start the day with wood selection and some explanations on techniques that we can use. Pieterjan will bring some examples, and everyone can decide on a design of their own, under the guidance of Pieterjan. Depending on your prior experience we can make complex, very intricate designs or we can choose a more down to earth design, giving you the opportunity to turn an end grain cup with an elegant foot.

We’ll mostly use hook tools, as a lot of pole lathe turners have those, so if you have tools of your own, we invite you to bring them. Learning with your own tools makes continuing later on much easier.

At the end of the day, when the goblets are turned, we’ll go over finishes and taking care of our newly turned treen.

Things to bring if you have them:

- Axe

- Hook tools (tip up, down, lightning and politician)

- Small spoon knife or scorp

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Pieterjan - de@houtbewaarder.be.

No prior experience needed. This workshop will still be beneficial for those with some experience as well.

Minimum age: 16 years old

Material costs: 5€ to be paid directly to Pieterjan onsite.

Workshops start after our morning circle around 9:30 am and end around 5 or 6 pm.

Pieterjan speaks Dutch & English.

If language is a barrier we are confident you will learn even if you speak or understand broken English. So much of the learning depends on seeing, feeling, and hearing the sounds as well.

IMPORTANT- Festival Tickets are booked separately and in addition to workshops. Please be sure you have booked your ticket before booking workshops!
