Thursday 6th - Fish Leather Tanning with Klaus & Siska

€90.00
COMING SOON

Making something beautiful out of something that is considered waste in modern society.
Turning fish skins into leather is an ancient craft that is slowly disappearing. Although fish leather may sound unusual, it is an extremely strong material and was historically widely used to make clothing, shoes, bags, decorations, and more. During this full day workshop, you will learn how to tan fish skins into strong and highly durable leather. This tanning process has been intertwined with human history for centuries. Tanning is an almost magical process in which you see the skin transform before your eyes into a beautiful new material. Be warned: this is something you might easily become addicted to ;)

What will you learn?

You will learn how to easily descale and scrape fish skins without damaging them, all while preserving their luxurious natural pattern. After this, you will learn how to tan the skins. During this full day workshop, you will work with two different tanning methods (fat tanning and bark tanning).

What will you take home afterwards?

You will go home with the knowledge and skills to start making and working with fish leather yourself. You will take 2 finished pieces of fishleather home.

Important

No modern chemical products are used. During this full day workshop, we work exclusively with natural materials. Fish skins that would otherwise be discarded, tree bark, various fats and oils, etc.
