This course is influenced by Martin's interest in both prehistoric burr bowls and Scandinavian kuksas, and during the day we will be creating spoons, scoops and maybe small bowls from Burr/burl.
Burr is an intriguing material ! It can be unpredictable and tough, but the finished products made from it can be spectacularly beautiful. In earlier times burr was often chosen for vessels of significance, for Mazers and ritual ladles for example, both for its beauty and the idiosyncrasies of its working qualities. There will be some specialised tools to borrow and Martin will be bringing burr from a range of tree species to experiment with.
Experience needed: It would be ideal for participants to have at least a little carving experience for this course, but if you're a beginner come along and we'll work it out between us !!
Minimum age: 10 years old
Material costs: 10€ to be paid directly to Martin onsite.
If you have your own carving tools please bring them. All other tools and materials will be provided. Carving Knives will be available for purchase on site.
Workshops start after our morning circle around 9:30 am and end around 5 or 6 pm.
Martin speaks English.
If language is a barrier we are confident you will learn even if you speak or understand broken English. So much of the learning depends on seeing, feeling, and hearing the sounds as well.
IMPORTANT- Festival Tickets are booked separately and in addition to workshops. Please be sure you have booked your ticket before booking workshops!
