Friday 7th - Bone & Horn Inlay with Martin Hazell

€90.00

This one-day course will show you how to attach bone, horn and antler to spoons and scoops, very much inspired by both Sami practise with kuksas and prehistoric use of skeletal resources, although there will a vegan option with pieces of contrasting timber. The use of animal parts in combination with wood is associated in many cultures with significant and ritual vessels, for feasting for example, perhaps implying that the finished object is imbued in some way with characteristics of the donor animal.
Participants should bring along a spoon or scoop (or two), although Martin will have some scoops available for those who don't have anything suitable. This course can be combined with the burr carving day, with the aim of creating something really special!

Experience needed: It would ideal for participants to have at least some spoon carving experience, but if you're a beginner come along and we can work something out!!!

Minimum age: 10 years old

Material costs: 10€ to be paid directly to Martin onsite.

If you have your own carving tools please bring them. All other tools and materials will be provided. Carving Knives will be available for purchase on site.

Workshops start after our morning circle around 9:30 am and end around 5 or 6 pm.

Martin speaks English.

If language is a barrier we are confident you will learn even if you speak or understand broken English. So much of the learning depends on seeing, feeling, and hearing the sounds as well.

IMPORTANT- Festival Tickets are booked separately and in addition to workshops. Please be sure you have booked your ticket before booking workshops!
