Friday 7th - Beginners Bowl Turning with Raleigh Klotzek

In this beginner’s bowl turning class you will learn how to use an axe to safely work a freshly split trunk of green wood into a bowl blank. We will start in groups of 2-4 for axing out blanks. Additional blanks will be prepared for you as well.

Next we will go through the process of turning a wooden bowl on a traditionally made Pole Lathe. The bowl produced will be ideal for everyday use in your kitchen, be it for muesli, soups, salads or snacks.

We will discuss technique, finish, tool sharpening, wood selection and more. If you have some experience and would like to improve technique, form/design, or finish this will also ba a good course for you as once you’re turning she can give personalized feedback.

This is a physically demanding course that requires you to be on your feet all day with all bits of you engaged.

Material's fee: 5€ to be paid to Raleigh at the festival

Skill Level/Prerequisite’s: Open to All Levels!

Minimum age: 14+ years old.

Bring: If you have your own tools, Carving Axe, or hook knife please bring it with you - All tools and materials will be provided by the instructor.

Workshops start after our morning circle around 9:30 am and end around 5pm.

The workshop will be taught in English.

If language is a barrier we are confident you will learn even if you speak or understand broken English. So much of the learning depends on seeing, feeling, and hearing the sounds as well.

IMPORTANT- Festival Tickets are booked separately and in addition to workshops. Please be sure you have booked your ticket before booking workshops!
