This hands-on workshop begins with preparing the bowl blank using an axe, with a strong focus on efficient and ergonomic axe techniques. Participants will learn how to work safely and effectively, using body mechanics rather than force to shape the blank.
After preparing the blank, we move to the lathe to turn a traditional ale bowl, with special emphasis on developing deep belly forms. Participants will explore the characteristic proportions, flowing curves, and balanced profiles that define this classic shape.
Skill Level/Prerequisite’s: This workshop is intended for turners who have already turned their first bowl or many bowls and are ready to refine and further develop their turning skills. It offers an opportunity to deepen technical control, improve shaping confidence, and gain a better understanding of form and proportion.
Minimum age: 16 years old.
Workshops start after our morning circle around 9:30 am and end around 5 or 6 pm.
Nico speaks English, Dutch, & Flemish.
If language is a barrier we are confident you will learn even if you speak or understand broken English. So much of the learning depends on seeing, feeling, and hearing the sounds as well.
