Monday 4th PM - Axe Carving Workshop - Axing is like Dancing with Raleigh Klotzek
A carving axe isn’t just a tool—it’s an extension of your rhythm, your timing, your intention. In this workshop, we’ll explore the foundations of safe, efficient, and expressive axe work. Whether you’re just picking up a carving axe for the first time or looking to refine your technique, this class will help you develop confidence and fluidity at the chopping block.
We’ll cover stance, grip, body mechanics, and controlled movements for rough shaping greenwood blanks. You’ll learn how to read the grain, plan your cuts, and bring a sense of flow and precision to your axe work. There will be plenty of hands-on time, guided practice, and tips to take with you into your own carving sessions.
No dance experience required =) —just a willingness to move, learn, and carve.
Skill Level/Prerequisite’s: Open to All Levels!
Minimum age: 14 years old.
Material costs: 0-10€ contribution to be paid directly to Raleigh for use of axes and wood we will have to buy for the woodworking classes.
If you have your own Axe please bring it. Axes will be available for those who don’t have one.
Afternoon workshops start following lunch at 2 pm and end around 4:30/5.
The workshop will be taught in English.
If language is a barrier we are confident you will learn even if you speak or understand broken English. So much of the learning depends on seeing, feeling, and hearing the sounds as well.
