Thursday 7th-Friday 8th AM -Square Shrinkpots (advanced workshop) with Bettina Lutzke
Note: This workshop is 1.5 days long over Thursday and Friday Morning.
Rectangular Shrinkpots (Advanced Workshop): Shrinkpots are not only round, but also could be square! In this workshop, we will look in depth at special shrinkpot shapes, what I need to look out for, what other tools I need and how to use them safely and correctly. We will also have time to talk about decorations and how these techniques work, what to do if my shrinkpot cracks during drying and much more. Above all, we make rectangular shrinkpots and make beautiful boxes for storage.
What to bring: You should have carving experience. You feel comfortable with your carving knife, you have already worked with an axe and a handsaw and a chisel is not a tool for removing nails for you. Then you've come to the right place. Please bring a carving knife, a carving axe, a fresh wood saw and a chisel somewhere between 10 and 16 mm. All other tools will be provided and shared. (If you are unable to attain all the tools please get in touch to let us know and we will see if there are some to borrow onsite)
Material costs: 5-10€ to be paid directly to Bettina at the Festival
Prerequisites: Shrink pots are a great greenwood project to start with, though it will help if you already have some experience with carving and using a knife.
Tools:Please bring your carving knife (e.g. Mora 120)! All other things will be provided and shared. If you don’t have a carving knife we will have some for sale on site!
Workshops start after our morning circle around 9:30 am and end around 5 or 6 pm.
Bettina's speaks German and English.
If language is a barrier we are confident you will learn even if you speak or understand broken English. So much of the learning depends on seeing, feeling, and hearing the sounds as well.
IMPORTANT- Festival Tickets are booked separately and in addition to workshops. Please be sure you have booked your ticket before booking workshops!
