Monday 4th - Rush basketry with Beke Olbers
This is your chance to learn how to make a traditional rush basket with me.
Of course we will start at the beginning, so which plants to use, how to harvest, how to store and prepare. As I’m new to the festival I don’t know the area yet… but if we can find some useful rushes close by we will go and have a look, or even harvest if aloud. No worries, I will bring enough pre-harvested materials for you to weave your little basket with!
During this workshop I will teach you the little details that matter.
You will learn to weave with mostly cattail, but other rushes can be used too. As with every skill and every craft it needs a little time to get the feeling in your hands, so your first basket might not be the perfect one… but will nevertheless be your entrance to a new and endless adventure.
Come weave with me!
Material costs: 10€ to be paid directly to Beke at the festival.
All tools and materials will be provided.
Workshops start after our morning circle around 9:30 am and end around 5 or 6 pm.
Beke speaks English, Dutch & German.
If language is a barrier we are confident you will learn even if you speak or understand broken English. So much of the learning depends on seeing, feeling, and hearing the sounds as well.
IMPORTANT- Festival Tickets are booked separately and in addition to workshops. Please be sure you have booked your ticket before booking workshops!
