Thurs 7th-Friday 8th - Kuksa Carving with Jonathan Jekic

€180.00
Sold Out

The kuksa is a traditional drinking vessel used by the sami people in Scandinavia. Kuksas are originally carved from a birch burl but in this two day workshop we will carve a kuksa from regular wood, as burls are really rare and hard to work with. The kuksas will be made using different handtools like gouges, an axe, hookknives and a sloydknife.
Kuksas offer a big variety of design options. Choose your own style and make your personal wooden cup under guidance, using safe and efficient carving techniques. We´ll also talk about the kuksa blank preparation, useable types of wood, decoration techniques, and a safe drying process of your fresh carved cup.
Carving on the same things for two days in a row might be a bit hard on your hands if you are a beginner, so feel free to bring a pair of garden gloves to save your hands from blisters.

This course is more suited to those who have a little bit of carving experience as well as those with a lot of experience.

All tools and materials will be provided though you are encouraged to bring your own tools if you have them.

Workshops start after our morning circle around 9:30 am and end around 5 or 6 pm.

Jonathan speaks German and English.

If language is a barrier we are confident you will learn even if you speak or understand broken English. So much of the learning depends on seeing, feeling, and hearing the sounds as well.

IMPORTANT- Festival Tickets are booked separately and in addition to workshops. Please be sure you have booked your ticket before booking workshops!
