Tuesday 5th - Hewing w/ Pirmin Lehr
Hewing raw logs straight from the forest into square timber suitable for traditional construction work using only the axe is one of the most basic and fascinating ancient crafts.
In this one day class you will have the opportunity to learn and exercise the whole process of hewing from positioning the beam in the log you have got and hewing notches to refining the surface with the broad axe.
Different types of hewing axes can be used and will be shown explaining their shape, sharpening and function, as well as different traditional styles of hewing, safe axe use and how to get different characteristic and beautiful hand hewn surfaces on your beam.
All skill levels are welcome.
Workshops start after our morning circle around 9:30 am and end around 5 or 6 pm.
The workshop will be taught in English & German.
If language is a barrier we are confident you will learn even if you speak or understand broken English. So much of the learning depends on seeing, feeling, and hearing the sounds as well.
IMPORTANT- Festival Tickets are booked separately and in addition to workshops. Please be sure you have booked your ticket before booking workshops!
