Wednesday 6th AM - Flat Sewn Hand brooms with Raleigh Klotzek
In this workshop, we’ll make beautiful, functional hand brooms using broomcorn and traditional flat sewing techniques—typically reserved for full-size brooms with handles. By scaling the process down to a hand broom, you’ll learn foundational broom making skills in a way that’s both approachable and deeply satisfying.
We’ll cover broomcorn preparation, tying, and the stitching methods used to create a sturdy, flat-sewn broom. Along the way, you’ll gain insight into the techniques we use when making larger brooms—skills you can build on in your own broomcraft practice.
You’ll leave with a finished hand broom and a new understanding of the rhythm, strength, and care that go into this timeless craft.
We will have additional Broom Materials for purchase at the Festival.
Material's fee: 10€ per broom made in the class (students will make 1-2 each). Additional materials available for purchase.
Skill Level/Prerequisite’s: Open to All Levels!
Minimum age: 12+ years old.
Morning workshops start after our morning circle around 9:30 am and end around 1pm.
All tools and materials will be provided by the instructor.
The workshop will be taught in English.
If language is a barrier we are confident you will learn even if you speak or understand broken English. So much of the learning depends on seeing, feeling, and hearing the sounds as well.
IMPORTANT- Festival Tickets are booked separately and in addition to workshops. Please be sure you have booked your ticket before booking workshops!
