Friday 8th - Fish Skin Tanning with Beke Olbers
Tanning is a science and mystery… something deeply rooted in our DNA. Come and re-awake your tanning genes!
I would love to take you onto your first steps into this immense transformative mystery: from raw hide to leather.
We will most likely work with raw salmon skins, bark tannins, natural fats and some little helpers in the process like vinegar and soap. This workshop will focus on vegetable (bark) tanning only!
Hands on and practical as well as some theory about tanning. And of course those little details, do’s and dont's that change tanning from a labor intensive thing to something enjoyable (and addictive in cases ;-)
You will leave with one fish skin fully tanned, softened and finished. And another yet to finish at home. No problem, as you now know how to do this.
Material costs: 15€ to be paid directly to Beke at the festival.
All tools and materials will be provided.
Skill Level/Prerequisite’s: Open to All Levels!
Minimum age: 16 years old, younger ok when accompanied by an adult
Workshops start after our morning circle around 9:30 am and end around 5 or 6 pm.
Beke speaks English, Dutch & German.
If language is a barrier we are confident you will learn even if you speak or understand broken English. So much of the learning depends on seeing, feeling, and hearing the sounds as well.
IMPORTANT- Festival Tickets are booked separately and in addition to workshops. Please be sure you have booked your ticket before booking workshops!
