Tuesday 5th - Cup Carving with Jonathan Jekic
In this one day workshop, you will learn how to carve your own endgrain cup for cold and hot drinks from a raw piece of wood. We´ll be using only handtools like an axe, hookknife and a sloydknife. If you have your own set of carving tools feel free to bring them with you, as swapping to different hook knifes while carving makes the process a lot easier.
We will focus on safe carving techniques, how to find a useable piece of wood for carving, safe storing of the cup until it is dry and on how to achieve the desired finish on your cup. We´ll also talk about different decoration techniques and we will discuss about the tools that are needed for the full making process.
The cool part about carved endgrain cups is, that you can make these without a lathe. Once you pre drilled a hole in the middle of your blank, you´re able to carve these cups anywhere you want.
Hollowing out an endgrain cup can be a bit hard on your hands, so you might want to bring a pair of garden gloves to save your hands from blisters.
This course is more suited to those who have a little bit of carving experience as well as those with a lot of experience.
All tools and materials will be provided though you are encouraged to bring your own tools if you have them.
Workshops start after our morning circle around 9:30 am and end around 5 or 6 pm.
Jonathan speaks German and English.
If language is a barrier we are confident you will learn even if you speak or understand broken English. So much of the learning depends on seeing, feeling, and hearing the sounds as well.
IMPORTANT- Festival Tickets are booked separately and in addition to workshops. Please be sure you have booked your ticket before booking workshops!
