Sandra Witteman is originally a goldsmith by profession wich is reflected in her artfully designed spoons and the fine finish she gives all of her work.
About 8 years ago she came into contact with green woodworking and an old love was kissed awake. Namely as a 12 year old she was teached by her grandfather with Fries woodcarving, an old traditional Dutch form of the present chipcarving.
She embraced green woodworking and many projects were made since then. She makes (plant) tables, stools, a woodshed, spoons, bowls, both hand carved and turned on an electric lathe, so it didn't take long before a foot powered pole-lathe was build. From the beginning she carved spoons on her own specific way with her grandfather's custom roseknife. Since last year she also teaches her way of carving and decorating. After her visit to Sean Hellman last summer, in which she was taken into the magical world of making fanbirds, she also gives workshops on how to make fanbirds. Fanbirds bring her so much joy and pleasure, she would like to share this joy and magic with the rest of the world!
