Workshops

Jero Lehr is a professional pole lathe bowl turner since 2022, living on the countryside near Berlin in Germany. Together with his twin brother Pirmin he runs the business "Woodculture Handcarved".
He works with wood and hand tools since the age of 15, studying different crafts such as bowl and spoon carving, bucket making, hewing, pit sawing, joinery and finally pole lathe turning.
He is fascinated by how you can make what you need to live with the work of your own hands from natural, ecological materials; resulting in his aim to research historical crafts and rural cultural techniques to make them usable for shaping a sustainable future.
In his career as a pole lathe bowl turner, he has explored different areas of this very old craft, from the construction of various pole lathes to the forging of hook tools and the production of special pieces such as handled bowls, cups, boxes or kuksas as well as several bowls from one single blank using the nesting technique. His special interests include researching historical pole lathes for bowl turning and optimizing their design.
He is happy to be able to teach the craft to others and to inspire them with traditional techniques. At the same time, he is always keen to learn and exchange ideas with others.

Jero’s courses will be in German and some English.
